Three by the Sea
by Edward Marshall, illustrated by James Marshall
Student work page and answer key PDF:
Three by the Sea is an easy reader. Lines such as, “the cat saw the rat,” will remind some readers of Dick and Jane books, but this story is fun for children to read and has a story line. Actually, each of the three characters tell a story. The stories get better and better, until the last story is the best. The plot will not overwhelm young readers, but parents may have to read the book to the child or explain things as there is enough action in the story so a reread is helpful. Children think this book is funny, which helps to motivate young readers. Edward and James Marshall have many fun books for children. They are the writers and illustrators of the Fox series, the George and Martha books, and many other lighthearted stories. At the library, these books are excellent choices to take home.
