The book Liar, Liar Pants on Fire, is about children at school making up patriotic plays as assigned by their teacher.  The main character Gilbert wants to be the cherry tree so he won’t have to speak in the play, but draws a slip of paper with the name George Washington.  After some turmoil, everything turns out well.  Here is a free PDF coloring page for the 4th of July:  July 4th coloring page PDF (photo of the page below).  And here is a generic writing frame for a patriotic play for a cast of up to six characters (it is six pages long but pages could be omitted or printed more than once):  Patriotic Play generic writing frame PDF, photos of two of the pages are below.
