The Silly Story of Goldie Locks and the Three Squares
By Grace Maccarone, illustrated by Anne Kennedy
Math activities at the end of the book by Marilyn Burns
The Silly Story of Goldie Locks and the Three Squares is another math readiness story for teachers or parents to read to students. It is a Hello Reader Level 2 book, so it is also an easy reader. Goldie Locks is the great-great granddaughter of the famous Goldilocks, and she has the same habit of walking into people’s houses. She finds different shapes (triangle, rectangle, circle, pentagon, and square) inside the house. However, she finds an assortment of triangles, for instance, which is important for children to learn about. Marilyn Burns says that some children think things like triangles can only point up, and it is necessary to introduce a variety of triangle types during early childhood to avoid such misconceptions. Here is my PDF work page set for this book: Goldie Locks and the Three Squares Work page and key PDF. The math level of this book is kindergarten or early fall of first grade, but the reading level is K-2. Books like these really do help build readiness for learning math!
