When it is Six O’clock in San Francisco, A Trip Through Time Zones

by Cynthia Jaynes Omololu, illustrated by Randy DuBurke

The author of When it is Six O’clock in San Francisco had such a clever idea to compare time zones to one US city, San Francisco, for children.  Often children would tell me what time it was where a relative lived, and show some understanding of the difference in time zones.  Of course, many children pick up about time zones in the USA from watching television ads promoting different shows.  But this book shows not only selected time zones but also includes different cultures on this trip around the world.  The family in Lahore, Pakistan, is eating some hot food while a family member in Honolulu, Hawaii is preparing to go surfing.  At the same time a family in Beijing is bicycling through snow on the way home from visiting grandparents.  This book is interesting to children of all ages.
