Clearwater Lodge, Gunflint Trail, MN, on National Registry of Historic Places

Clearwater Lodge on the Gunflint Trail in MN
July 2011 Visit
Clearwater Lodge on the Gunflint Trail was hand built by C. Boostrom from 1926 through 1928.  There were 14 rooms upstairs.  Not a single nail was used in the entire
lodge.  All the furniture was hand made and much of it from diamond willow, and it looks
new today.  This lodge is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is free to visit and look around. They have many historical artifacts to view.  It is a resort and rents canoes and camping equipment, and some of the rooms and cabins have kitchenettes.  It is on beautiful Lake Clearwater.  The owners gave us a tour and are happy to tell the history of this wonderful location.  On Tuesday afternoons the daughter of the builder tells historical information and shares stories about living there.  She and her brother shared a trap line!  Thursdays is pie day and is also a good day to visit.  Even if your family doesn’t have a chance to travel this summer, I’m sure that wherever you are there is a location on the National Registry of Historic places that may offer some fabulous opportunities for learning.
