Red, White and Blue
Book and music CD by Debbie Clement
2011 Indie Excellence Book Awards (for Children’s Book and Audio)
The contest is over, thanks!
Debbie Clement is the author and illustrator of the children’s book, Red, White and Blue. This is the perfect book to share with your children or class on September 11th. Debbie Clement was inspired to write the song just after 9-11-2001. She is a singer, songwriter, artist, and writer, and visits schools leading children in music assemblies. She heard the finalized version of the song on a 4th of July while driving and watching fireworks from several suburbs. She is quoted as saying, “I was elated to hear it with such a backdrop of patriotic artistry.”
The illustrations are representational quilts which took five years to create. Patriotic scenes show firefighters, purple mountains, military uniforms, buildings in New York City, and more. The illustrations are child-friendly which seems to be difficult to do given the theme, but Debbie Clement knows how to relate to children. At the end of the book, Debbie provides sign language and historical information about the flag. A music notation page is provided for those talented musically. The book could be shared with children of any age, but the primary audience for this book and song is Pre-K through Grade 3 classes. She worked on this book while also dealing with cancer, which is another tribute to the American spirit.
Debbie Clement suggests the following on September 11th:
1. Raise the flag
2. Say the Pledge of Allegiance
3. Read the book, Red, White, and Blue, and sing the song
I would suggest this book would also be the perfect one to use on September 17th, when teachers are required by law to teach lessons for Constitution Day. It would help in classes that day, also.
My FREE PDF is a spelling page because the audience for the book is young learners: Red, White and Blue work page and key PDF
Happy reading and singing and signing, Carolyn

Red, White, and Blue….I cannot WAIT to hear my 500 students singing this song…on 9/11, on Constitution Day, on Veteran’s Day, but ESPECIALLY when Debbie Clement visits our school for TWO FULL DAYS OF FUN AND LEARNING!! I already have my own copy and one for our library…if I should win, the copy I receive will be donated to our public library.
Thanks for writing! I bet the two days are wonderful. So far you have a 100% chance of winning!
