The people in this town watch TV and do not read!  Disaster results, so parents and teachers can impress upon children that they should not watch so much TV by sharing this book.  This is a read-once or once-in-awhile book, so check it out from the library.  It may not become a favorite but the lesson will be remembered, and the colorful pictures and interesting story make it a good read-aloud.

nearby damWe were walking on our new favorite hiking trail and today noticed the nearby dam.  This dam was built only to help raise the water level of a neighborhood lake to prevent it from becoming a swamp.  There is probably a dam somewhere near where you live your children or students have noticed.  The water is running harder in the spring and gets us to pay attention.  This type of noticing could be a segue to reading Aunt Chip and the Great Triple Creek Dam Affair.

Help children realize that walking and reading can be more interesting that TV.

Happy reading, Carolyn
