On the Same Day in March

On the Same Day in March:  A Tour of the World’s Weather

by Marilyn Singer

I realized that a left out a wonderful book in March, but it is only April 3rd so I want to tell you about this book anyway.  This book shows the weather around the world on the same day in March (hence the name of the book), which amazes children when they realize everyone in the world is not sharing the same weather they are experiencing.

“On the same day in March…
Polar bears ride on Arctic ice.
People in French cafes turn up their faces to the sun.
Hailstones roll over Indian hillsides.
Rain makes a river in Kenya.”

The author and illustrator show us with poetic words and art what the weather is like in seventeen different locations on the very same day on earth.  After reading this story, it would be interesting to check in on a few places named in the earth and see what the weather is doing during another month, on another day.
